The Office of Science and Special Projects at the San Joaquin County Office of Education implements California Science Academic Standards and the California Science Frameworks. Community colleges, four-year colleges and universities in the region work with the office of Science and Special Projects to promote science as a core subject for all grade levels.

The office also serves as liaison between the California Department of Education and other national/regional science-oriented agencies. Various grant programs the department has participated in provide funds for teacher professional development in science from the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, California Department of Education, and the California Postsecondary Education Commission. The programs are designed to promote the improvement of science education and teacher leadership.

We are currently running many grant-funded projects, student events, and professional development opportunities. The Office of Science and Special Projects, working in partnership with the Department of Physics at University of Pacific, is the regional home of the Delta Sierra Subject Matter Project; a statewide, successful, ongoing professional development project in science.
